Thoughts from the book Education by EGW

Understanding children's personalities is crucial for their proper development and training. According to my knowledge base:

  1. Individual Differences: Children and youth differ widely in disposition, habits, and training. Some may lack definite purpose or fixed principles, while others may have been overly indulged or discouraged. Recognizing these differences helps in addressing their unique needs effectively.

  2. Awakening Responsibilities: Some children need to be awakened to their responsibilities and possibilities, as they may not have been rightly trained at home. This includes fostering stability, perseverance, and self-denial.

  3. Building Confidence and Honor: Children benefit from being trusted and treated with respect. Many have a high sense of honor and should not feel constantly watched or suspected, as this can lead to demoralization.

  4. Natural Development: Children should be allowed to develop naturally, without being forced into precocious maturity. They should be trained in childlike simplicity, contentment with small duties, and experiences appropriate to their age.

  5. Parental Role: Parents should study the mental and physical aspects of their children, understanding the conditions required for healthy development. They should also guide their children with patient, watchful love, correcting wrong habits and cultivating attractive traits of character.

By understanding and respecting the unique personality and developmental stage of each child, parents and educators can provide the guidance and support necessary for their growth in physical, mental, and moral health.
